Team bikes of the Tour de France - Sky/Pinarello

Team bikes of the Tour de France - Sky/Pinarello

Inevitably in our run down of Tour team bikes we come to Team Sky. They were the team to beat at the start of the race and their strength was immediately apparent with Geraint Thomas taking the yellow jersey in the opening time trial (though Froome posted the fastest time of any of the GC favourites). He handed it over to Froome at the end of day four who’s worn it all but two days since.

Only rarely have Sky not looked completely in control with Mikel Landa playing the role of super-domestique, pulling Froome up the road as they shut down breakaway attempts. Landa has displayed a calm and calculating poker face throughout, never looking close to being in trouble. He sits in 4th place in the GC in his own right - undoubtedly we’ll see him as a team leader in a future Tour

Despite Sky’s strength they’ve never managed to open up a large lead with less than 30 seconds separating the podium going into the Marseille time trial. That’s certainly enough for Rigoberto Uran to take the race if Froome fails were to have a bad day but Froome's consistency is what’s seen him spend so much time in yellow since 2013.

Sky’s partnership with Pinarello goes back to the birth of the team in 2010 and the riders have been heavily involved in the development of the Dogma frames. As an aero-optimised race bike the Dogma gets used for everything but the time trials - it’s a true all-rounder that’s ever popular with our customers. While the team use both the standard F10 and the X-lite version the Dogma is already light enough that theres no trouble hitting the 6.8kg UCI weight limit (the 60g saving of the X-lite must be offset elsewhere).

For the Time Trials Sky roll out on the Bolide (Italian for missile). The Bolide’s organic curves are a contrast the the sharp edges of many TT bikes - we have one in store at the moment and it’s truly stunning.
