Bikes of the Tour de France Teams - Argon-18 (Astana)

Bikes of the Tour de France Teams - Argon-18 (Astana)

Canadian brand Argon-18 are the new bikes sponsors for Kazakh team Astana in 2017.  They're chasing hard on Team Sky's tail in the 2017 TdF.

Italian champion Fabio Aru spent a few days in the polka dot jersey earlier in the race and is second in the GC classification after stage 11 (just 18 seconds behind Chris Froome).  The team itself is sitting third.

Their main race machine is the Gallium Pro - a stiff lightweight race bike that will have been a big help to Aru on the mountain stages both up and down. The chemical element Argon might take it's name from the the Greek work meaning lazy but this bike is anything but.

Continuing the elemental theme their Aero bike is the Nitrogen which achieves its aero gains whilst keeping a fairly conventional look and without much weight penalty. The neat TRP linear pull brakes mounted behind the fork are tucked out of the airflow without being awkward to maintain and the seatpost can be reversed for time trial use.

Argon's Time Trial bike is the E-118 and is striking looking machine whether in the Astana team colours or the more usual red and black.  With a low and radical riding position it's highly aero optimised but the front brake mounted behind the fork and the rear sitting under the chainstay.
